Dapol in pictures

Post by Admin-Emperor Dalek on Sat 16 Feb 2013 - 23:06

Dapol were often criticized for their designs of Doctor Who, but when they were produced they were the first proper Doctor Who action figures we had.

Dapol Earthshock Cybermen, custom Cybercontroller from Attack of the Cybermen and resin Tomb Cybermen.

2nd Doctor figure also from resin.

Dapol Playset with the 7th Doctor, Mel and green K-9. Console battery operated and time rotor moves up and down.

They look pretty good up close! Never did get the feel for these but at second glance, they look really nice.

I had a whole bunch back in the day, but left them all behind in a box when I left for China.

Watching Dr Forever on the Aztecs s/e, this maybe the reason why the Dapol console is only 5 sides. Apparently Dapol rang JNT and said that the photo they had looked like its only got five sides, JNT replied that if that's what it looks like then that's what it is.

Oddly enough I don't have many of these in my collection other than the odd signed example. Seeing that there are many for sale on eBay but I might start getting into collecting them as part of my vintage items. Smile

Well done! The new scale figures are actually smaller than Dapol. Razz

I was lucky a few years ago, went into Oxfam in Manchester and found an unboxed nearly complete for £12.00.

I'm jealous. I can still see loads for sale in W.H.S & Woolworth's back in the day and I never thought of buy a single set or figure. I regret that decision daily. Checking on eBay there a few bargains with Dapol figures ranging from £10 onwards but the sets are always quite expensive being between £130/£150 and somewhere in between. Smile

Considering Dapol was a small Welsh company, I think they did very well producing Dr Who figures the way they did. But the BBC were mean when without a reason decided not to re-new their license.

Today, I got a blue Millennium Dalek. I also got a Dalek keyring, The Five Doctors video, 4 old issues of SFX Magazine, and a copy of What's on TV with a Doctor Who feature.

It was made for the millennium and there were six different colours. All the variants had glitter on them.

I have a very soft spot for Dapol, as stated above they were the very first real range of "action figures". Yes, they were not perfect my growing up my 7th Dr. Ace and K9 had many adventures!

This is my growing army of Dapol "Marx" friction drive Daleks, made from the original 60's molds.

Very nice Ogron, I have always liked Dapol. Some are better than the 3.75" figures we get today.
