3.75" Line

Post by Dalek on Sun 13 Aug 2017 - 19:53

I think we can say the line is dead now, so here's a discussion thread for the line, to talk about favourite figures and the like, and also chart the history of the range and hopefully build a comprehensive guide.

Some of you may remember the first prototypes of the 3.75" range were first shown in the 2013 Toy Fair, which was intended for trade only. The first time the range was 'unveiled' to the public (i.e. as in officially, in a press release) was when, after the broadcast of 'Cold War', this picture of the Ice Warrior was released, in conjunction with SFX Magazine.

More history to come soon.

I remember that now you mention it. I think my favourites are the Daleks. Especially the new series ones made to look like movie Daleks. I also like the Dalek patrol ship. Other good figures, the Foretold Mummy, Ice Warrior & the Zygons. As for the Doctors, 10th Doctor good likeness, but 11 & 12 poor.
Here is my collection.

They were planning on bringing out the 7th Doctor in 3.75 and some more Daleks.
The Supreme Dalek was release from this photo, but the other two were not.

And here are the very first photos of the 3.75" line from the 2013 Toy Fair. As you can see, the original packaging design was quite different and the mock ups show figures that were never released, two Eleventh Doctor variants (tweed jacket with blue bow tie and 'Bells of Saint John', purple coat without waistcoat) and the 'Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS' Clara variant.

I think one thing that aided their demise was the quality. Now I have the original Star Wars figures, some that date back to 1977, they are far better made than these were...

I do slightly wish they'd have done that Wave 5, because out of all them it looked the best. It had updated Classic daleks from Series 9, Missy, Red Velvet 12, it's really a shame it never got released.

Sales flopped. Also I think action figures from other films/programmes don't really sell well now. Its more a collectors range now. When I go into the bargain stores like Quality save, I see Thunderbirds, Star Wars and Doctor Who selling for bargain prices.

I think it's more of a dead range to be honest. All we're getting now is re-releases on a yearly basis.
