I'm more for an actor I've not heard of before as it makes it harder to judge.

Exactly. That's why I would prefer him to someone like Idris Elba, Rory Kinnear, Hugh Laurie.

I read he has been in some films. Also if the rumours are true the BBC want someone young and good looking he fits the part.

In the latest issue of DWM they have stated that they expect the announcement for the new Doctor to be made tomorrow after the finale goes out. They note though that they were warned the plan may change (and their information is several weeks old at this point), so it could take longer.

With the Christmas Special now airing, I would expect the announcement to come soon enough.

The Master's line in the finale, "Is the future all-girl?" and the Doctor's response "We can only hope" have lead many people to believe that this scene is foreshadowing a female Doctor next.

If the next Doctor does turn out to be female, I will probably stop watching the show altogether. The Doctor must always be a british male to me, otherwise he isn't the Doctor. Skin colour isn't a problem, but gender is something that would really annoy me. We get it, Time Lords can become female, we've seen this concept done twice already and then reinforced multiple times (Missy and the General).

All I can say is we will have to wait a little longer. Anytime between now and August/September as they would be starting to film series 11 then, unless that is being delayed until next Autumn.

Well the only way they could justify a long gap between series is with another spin off. Perhaps something new. Although I'm really holding for a Class series 2 despite the unlikelihood. We still need disclosure about the Arrival.

Ah yes on his website it said he'd landed a role in Doctor who. However upon doing some research and asking around, there is a solution to this information. He portrayed a monk in the Bells of Saint John, however this scene was deleted.

I assumed it meant Series 10 because I couldn't recall him being in the show prior, and it made it clear it wasn't the same casting call as Class.

Re: The next Doctor?

From BBC News:

The identity of Doctor Who's 13th Time Lord will be revealed following the Wimbledon men's singles tennis final on Sunday, the BBC has announced.
A trailer featuring the number 13 in different locations was aired during the tennis on BBC One on Friday.
It finished with the caption: "Meet the 13th Doctor after the Wimbledon men's final, Sunday 16th July."
The actor will succeed Peter Capaldi who took the role in 2013 and will leave in the 2017 Christmas special.
Capaldi made the announcement during an interview with BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley in January.
The Glasgow-born star said: "I feel it's time to move on. I feel sad, I love Doctor Who, it is a fantastic programme to work on."

Ability to regenerate

The locations in the trailer included 10 Downing Street, the White Cliffs of Dover and the Statue of Liberty.
The popular sci-fi series features a Time Lord, known only as The Doctor, who travels through time and space in the Tardis, which resembles a 1960s police telephone box.
The main character has the ability to regenerate, a quirk that has allowed a number of actors to have played the role over the years.
Capaldi, who replaced Matt Smith as The Doctor, was previously best known for his role as foul-mouthed spin-doctor Malcolm Tucker in the BBC series The Thick of It.

I agree Last. Nothing would be filmed yet, all they would of done is the change. Do you think the Tardis will be on centre court?

Highly doubt it. I think the Tennis will be separate to the announcement, as in I reckon it's  going to be like with the twelfth doctor where it had its own live show.

One other thing, apparently there are clues in the teaser as to who the next Doctor is. And since Downing Street is there... oh dear, Theresa May = 13th Doctor?

Hahahaha Theresa May as the Doctor, that would be le having the Master as the Doctor.
Mind you she is a fan.
I know the announcement is after the Tennis. In the classic days there would be a press conference with the new Doctor, none of this big announcement which I think distracts from the show. I can't remember if they did that with Tennant. With Smith it was a special confidential.

Like when McCoy was announced.

I guess doing it the way they do generates more publicity?

I was speaking to Terry Molloy earlier at my local comic con, and he has it on good authority that the Series 11 scripts have been completed. He acknowledged it was unusually fast, but Chibnall apparently likes to get the ball rolling.

Good point, but Molloy may know people on the inside, if scripts are written why do they have to wait until November to start filming unless the new actor is not available till then.

Maybe they have began filming. It's possible your source was lying to keep it secret or just didn't know.

Considering they've just finished filming the Christmas Special, it would be a good time to start filming now, especially considering the big reveal is tonight.

It was filmed before it, not that it made much difference.

So... given the threats to abandon the show am I all alone now? (intended as a joke, please don't take offence)

HA ITS A WOMAN. THAT'S FUNNY! NOW WHO IS IT REALLY?

Oh my. I am so angry with this. It's funny because 54 years of an amazing sci-fi show has been leading up to this. It's only a woman because they're just saying OH WE CAN DO THIS.

AND this is the woman from Broadchurch! And who wrote Broadchurch? CHIBNALL!

If I see that man in public I might just bludgeon him with a brick.

Jodie Whittaker talks Doctor Who

Sunday, 16 July, 2017 - Reported by Marcus

Following the news that she had been cast as the thirteenth, and first female Doctor, Jodie Whittaker has been taking about the role and her feelings on becoming the number one Time Lord

1. What does it feel like to be the Thirteenth Doctor?

It’s very nerve-racking, as it’s been so secret!
2. Why did you want the role?

To be asked to play the ultimate character, to get to play pretend in the truest form: this is why I wanted to be an actor in the first place. To be able to play someone who is literally reinvented on screen, with all the freedoms that brings - what an unbelievable opportunity. And added to that, to be the first woman in that role.
3. Has it been hard to keep the secret?

Yes. Very hard! I’ve told a lot of lies! I’ve embroiled myself in a whole world of lies which is going to come back at me when this is announced!
4. Who was the first person you told when you got the role?

My husband. Because I was allowed to!
5. Did you have a codename and if so what was it?

In my home, and with my agent, it was The Clooney. Because to me and my husband, George is an iconic guy. And we thought, what’s a really famous iconic name? It was just fitting.
6. What does it feel like to be the first woman Doctor?

It feels completely overwhelming; as a feminist, as a woman, as an actor, as a human, as someone who wants to continually push themselves and challenge themselves, and not be boxed in by what you’re told you can and can’t be. It feels incredible.
7. What do you want to tell the fans?

I want to tell the fans not to be scared by my gender. Because this is a really exciting time, and Doctor Who represents everything that’s exciting about change. The fans have lived through so many changes, and this is only a new, different one, not a fearful one.
8. What are you most excited about?

I’m most excited about becoming part of a family I didn’t even know existed. I was born in 1982 - it’s been around longer than me, and it’s a family I couldn’t ever have dreamed I’d be part of.
9. How did Chris sell you the part?

We had a strange chat earlier this year where he tricked me into thinking we were talking about Broadchurch. And I started to quiz him about his new job in Wales, and asked him if I could be a baddie! And he quickly diverted the conversation to suggest I should consider auditioning to be the 13th Clooney. It was the most incredible chat because I asked every question under the sun, and I said I’d take a few weeks to decide whether I was going to audition. He got a phone call within 24 hours. He would’ve got a phone call sooner, but my husband was away and there was a time difference!
10. Did he persuade you?

No. There was no persuasion needed. If you need to be persuaded to do this part, you’re not right for this part, and the part isn’t right for you. I also think, for anyone taking this on, you have to want to fight for it, which I certainly had to do. I know there will have been some phenomenal actors who threw their hats in the ring.
11. What are you going to wear?

I don’t know yet.
12. Is that your costume in the filmed sequence which introduced you as the new Doctor?

No.
13. Have any of the other Doctors given you advice?

Well they can’t because they haven’t known until now, but I’m certainly expecting a couple of calls - I’ve got a couple of mates in there. I’m mates with a companion [Arthur Darvill], I’m mates with a trio of Doctors. I know Matt Smith, Chris Eccleston and obviously David Tennant. Oh! And let’s throw in David Bradley! Four Doctors! So I’m hoping I get some calls of advice.

Honestly, here's the truth:

Yes I'm still very much against a female Doctor, however I'm glad that it was this woman in particular. She has had some good films, and is generally a very nice person overall. So if it absolutely had to be a woman, i'm glad it was her.

Today, as I always do with the new Doctor, I bought every newspaper under the sun and honestly, I am genuinely appalled at the blatant sexism, homophobia, etc. published in the tabloids and I am honestly surprised they are allowed to print these words.

I won't turn this into a full blown rant, but I will say I had to laugh out loud at publications attacking the BBC for Political Correctness and shutting down freedom of speech, whilst, in the very same articles, criticizing Bill for being gay, the number of women we see on TV-this almost Nazi like approach to the way they want life to be is no different to their view of the feminists they despise so much. It is so much better for TV to be populated by a vast, colourful array of wonderful characters than by billions of nasty straight white males of the type who run these poor excuses for journalism.

I wish it was just that. From everything I've seen 90% of those responsible are other women which is another set of problems entirely.

I will watch it and see what she is like, its going to take time to get used to I think, but they are all saying she is a great actress and that is what is important as well as the writing. My one worry at the moment is if they bring Bill back, I hope they don't have her fancying the Doctor.

On Twitter Colin Baker was trending, great to see him getting the attention he should of got years ago, although its for another Doctor. Hopefully people will want to watch his episodes.

Think I'm starting to take a liking to Whittaker. Slowly but surely growing on her as the Doctor. Considering she's a great actress, I'm losing doubts, and gaining faith in her. I genuinely believe that she can do this.

Doctor Who Reveal Has Record Viewings
Tuesday, 18 July, 2017 - Reported by Marcus
Jodie Whittaker (Credit: BBC)
The BBC have revealed that the video announcing Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor received over sixteen million views online

The minute-long specially shot scene debuted on BBC One after the Men’s Wimbledon final on Sunday, where just over 5 million viewers saw it. It was also released on BBC social media channels around the world.

The reveal has been watched 9.8 million times on the BBC One Facebook channel so far, with over 2.5 million views on the Doctor Who Twitter account - making it the most successful tweet of all time for Doctor Who.

Piers Wenger, Controller of BBC Drama, says:
To see the overwhelmingly positive response to the news that Jodie Whittaker will star as the Thirteenth Doctor, and know that the reveal has had over sixteen million views online so far, is just phenomenal. It’s exhilarating to see Doctor Who engaging with people on so many different levels and I cannot wait for the audience to see her in action on BBC ONE this Christmas.
The teaser trailer, which debuted on Friday evening before the BBC One 6 O’Clock News, has been watched a further 4.8 million times online.

Jodie Whittaker will make her debut as the Doctor in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special, when the current Doctor – played by Peter Capaldi - will regenerate.

What I don't like about this still is how far the Whovian community has been divided.
