Latest Buys 2017

Post by Dalek on Thu 12 Jan 2017 - 19:10

Post all new acquisitions of the year here!

I went to Liverpool yesterday, and got some fantastic bargains! From Worlds Apart, I got the 3.75" Twelfth Doctor Regeneration Figure (Wave 3) for £1.99, and also picked up a free Vortex Magazine. From Forbidden Planet, I got the Dalek Invasion of Earth Risk board game for £4.99 and a Comic grab bag containing the 2016 SDCC special and three others for £1 (should have been £2, but the guy mischarged me) as well as a free bag and catalogue.

Today, I got the new DWM (which is fantastic, it's a 70s special and features a free comic reprint) and the latest Complete History books, Issue 32 (Edge of Destruction-Aztecs), 33 (Impossible Planet-Doomsday) and The Widow's Curse graphic novel (10, Martha and Donna).

Today, I received a Lego star wars Rebels set. Captain Rex's AT-TE. My shelf has this really annoying empty space right in the middle, so finally I have something to fill it in. Used some of my Christmas money, total was £88. But I've still got about £60 left.

Got the new Doctor Who Adventures yesterday, which came with a free Sonic Screwdriver pen (Hell Bent onwards design), the Doctor's ring and the Doctor's TARDIS driving licence card. The next issue comes with a conundrum cube, which is basically an easier to solve Rubix's Cube with Doctor Who pictures on.

Also, got a real bargain from the car boot-the Doctor Who Colouring Book for 50p! Only one Zygon had been coloured (purple, for some reason), and it's like brand new!

Re: Latest Buys 2017

Post by Dalek on Sun 9 Apr 2017 - 19:33

A few recent bargains to post. Yesterday, I got Series 5: Volume 3 on Blu-Ray from Cash Generator for £1, and also got some of the vending machine toys-the Asylum of the Daleks Mini Viewer and the Series 3 Eleventh Doctor figure.

Today, from the car boot, I got some 5" figures for £2 each, and I need a bit of help identifying them.

1. One of them was a grey skinned, closed mouth Silent. I am aware there were two variants of this figure, a standard and one with specially moulded hands to hold the electricity bolts. Could somebody with both variants post side by side pictures of the hands to see which variant I have?

2. The other was the Impossible Astronaut. I know there were two variants of this-Melody and River, however, the visor on mine does not lift. It's stuck solid, and isn't likely to have been glued down, as the figures came from a child's collection. Was this a variant, or is it a production error?

It isn't a production error, but it isn't supposed to be that way either. The plastic in CO's toys is known for being quite stiff, and the chances are that the child just hasn't played with that figure for a while and over time the plastic has deteriorated and the visor has become stuck. Try the old hot water trick and see if you can open it.

I've tried everything I can with the Astronaut, and it's not budging. I think I'll probably e-mail CO to see if they can offer any more information.

Today, I went to Botany Bay, an old mill converted into a shopping centre made up of stalls. I got the paperback Twelfth Doctor novel Silhouette (the one with the Paternoster Gang) for £2.99, a large Missy sticker for £2.50 and a set of badges for £3, with pictures of a Yeti (Web of Fear), Omega (Three Doctors) and a Drashig. In non Who terms, I got a Making of King Kong book for £3.50 and a pack of Big Bang Theory stickers for 99p.

Someone said they had a similar problem, it will definitely open just takes some force, or someone else suggested heat it with a hair dryer.

Went to the Doctor Who event at Forbidden Planet today, and got some great bargains. I took advantage of the £14.99 set offer (Enemies of the First and Third Doctors, and The Chase sets), and got a free 11 Doctors poster and two comics-the 2015 SDCC special (Clara cover) and the Tenth Doctor Year 2 Issue 17. I also picked up the two most recent editions of Vortex Magazine.

Elsewhere, I got a Torchwood comic from Worlds Apart for £3.35 (Issue 2.1), the free NME magazine from HMV and got some newspapers from WH Smith because the TV listings had articles on 'The Pilot'. I got the I, Echo, Mirror, Star and Express, the latter of which had a voucher for a choice of either The Secret Lives of Monsters or The Visual Dictionary (WH Smith variants) from WH Smith for the reduced price of just £4 (I chose the latter).

I got the aforementioned Dalek egg, The Return of Doctor Mysterio on DVD, Issues 11 and 12 of an American comic series from 1985 (they seem to be colourised reprints of Tom Baker Weekly strips), a Dalek Invasion of Earth mini mug, a DC cupcake kit, DC napkins, a Marvel egg, a Cadbury egg, a Crème Egg, a generic egg and some jelly bunnies, alongside the usual cards, money, gift bags, etc.

If anybody has a That's Entertainment store near them, check it, because I went in mine today, and they had loads of classics at very good prices. I got Full Circle and The Visitation in a 2 for £5 offer (£2.99 each), but they had a wide array of stories, including The Caves of Androzani for 99p! If I didn't have it, I would have snapped that up.

Also, got the new Tales from the TARDIS as well. The stories this month are Old Girl Part 2: Primeval (Tenth Doctor), Gently Pulls the Strings (Eleventh Doctor) and Terror of the Cabinet Noir Part 3 (Twelfth Doctor).

Only just noticed this-it was from a vending machine. Laughing Seriously though, it was from Warrington, they have a machine filled with figures and the mini viewers, and I'm the only one who ever buys them, so I'll be able to keep buying them until I have a full set. It's in the Cockhedge centre if you ever want to go.

Back on topic, got the latest Complete History issues on Tuesday, 42 and 43. 42 covers The Angels Take Manhattan, The Snowmen and The Bells of Saint John and 43 covers The Three Doctors, Carnival of Monsters and Frontier in Space.
